“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” Job 1:21
We worry so much about this and that every day. When we think about it, not one of us knows when we’ll take our last breath. So we take it upon ourselves to worry and add new worries to our other worries as if we are making things any easier if we worry hard enough or long enough.
Worrying comes naturally especially when things aren’t going our way. The trick is to catch ourselves worrying and stop it in its tracks. In other words, we can decide then and there if we want to continue worrying or shrug our shoulders and say “enough!”
LIFE GETS MUCH EASIER BY DOING THIS ONE THING
Like everything else in life, if we consistently and routinely do things life requires us to do each and every day, things will get easier for us. It’s like brushing your teeth. You don’t think about it, you just simply brush your teeth.
I believe it takes lots and lots of practice to become conscious of the unconscious thoughts we are thinking and doing. Each of us equally gets 24 hours each day. No one gets a minute more or a minute less. There’s a saying that what we think becomes words that come out of our mouths, and what comes out of our mouths determine our actions.
The actions we take therefore is all ours. Good, bad, or ugly, it doesn’t matter. It all began with our thoughts. There’s another saying that you can’t plant oranges and manifest apples. It’s the same thing with our thoughts. When the results of our thinking are manifested in our lives and we find that we don’t like what’s happening, we tend to start blaming others for it.
The point is this – when we worry, we are adding unnecessary thoughts to our problems. Somehow worrying magnifies our problems even to uncontrollable levels. No one can think for someone else. We can only think for ourselves. It’s all up to us to choose what thoughts we allow in our minds.
CONTROL YOUR THOUGHTS TO HAVE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE
To control our actions, we must control our thoughts. To control our thoughts, we must be consciously aware of what we are thinking. Literally, we must be aware of our minute to minute thoughts. Sound easy for you? Sure it is. 🙂 It’s just like brushing our teeth. We do it because it is a habit we’ve learned from the day we started teething. 🙂
We have to be aware of the thoughts we think because how can we control anything if we are not aware of what we are thinking about? And remember, thinking is just the planting of thoughts in our heads. Sometimes it gets difficult to calm my mind. When this happens, I find that listening to soft music really helps. It helps me to focus on what I need to focus on. Check out an example of calm music at:
It doesn’t matter what kind of thoughts – whether they are apples or oranges, sweet or dreadful thoughts, it gets added on to the thoughts already in our minds. This is called “clutter”. Sometimes these thoughts
Remember Jesus said it best, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life. Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” (Luke 12:25-26)
Excellent advice, yes? 🙂
